Albion-Homer United Way Supports Wellness At Homer Schools

In keeping with the mission of the Albion-Homer United Way the Homer Community Schools received funding to promote healthy behaviors in 2024.

The Student Wellness Fair is partially funded by a recent grant to the school system. The fair will be held in late winter or early spring and is a joint venture between Homer High School health and science students and Homer Middle School students. Students will partner to engage in research, creation and exhibition of human wellness topics.

The two-semester project will be presented to the students and the public during an evening exhibition at the high school. Homer students will attend the fair during school hours to see all the health projects on display. The date has yet to be determined.

The fair will also include outside wellness agencies and businesses with displays promoting healthy lifestyles. According to Homer Community Schools representative Melinda Mitchell judges will present awards for the best projects.

Albion-Homer United Way is committed to make a difference in the lives of those living in Albion and Homer. According to AHUW Executive Director Marcia Starkey supporting wellness is an important factor in achieving the local United Way goals. This support comes from funding non-profit programs through grants. On-going donations throughout the year are needed to continue these efforts.

According to Starkey there are several good reasons to donate to the local United Way including that donations fund Albion and Homer specific programs and funding decisions are made by a local board. Donor lists are never shared with other agencies and payroll deductions make donating easier.

Donations can be mailed at any time to AHUW P.O. Box 55, Albion, MI 49224, made on-line at www.albionhomeruw.org or by contacting Starkey at 517-499-2563.

AHUW board members are Virgie Ammerman, Carolyn Amos, Donisha Brewer, Chris Burdette, Art Kale, Michael Leskowich, Isabell Nazar, Eddie Williams and Shane Williamson.
